On Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016, the Optometry Department at An-Najah participated in the 2nd Jordanian Palestinian Optometry Congress at the Le Méridien Hotel in Amman, Jordan.


The congress was over three days from March 23rd-25th, 2016 and was attended by speakers and experts from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and the U.K.

The congress included lectures and workshops moderated by national and international experts who tackled issues related to refractive errors (disorders)* treatment and the medical and technological progress made on optometry studies.

Dr. Liana Labadi, Head of the Optometry Department and Drs. Ithar Beshtawi and Yousef Shanti, Lecturers at the Optometry Department at An-Najah talked about visual rehabilitation, children’s vision and dry eye treatment.

In the same context, both Ms Reem Shaheen and Ms Jasmine Abdurrahman, Teaching Assistants at the Department discussed a number of research papers on wrong practices made by contact lenses wearers and percentage of children with refractive errors in Palestine.  

It is worth mentioning that the university made regional and international relations through the congress.

Notes:

  • The congress was also attended by 19 students from the Optometry Department at An-Najah.
  • Refractive errors are optical imperfections that prevent the eye from properly focusing light, causing blurred vision. The primary refractive errors are nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
