Accommodations

Accommodation

An-Najah National University is deeply committed to ensuring that all students, staff, and faculty with disabilities have equitable access to educational and professional opportunities. Our Disability Support Office (DSO) plays a critical role in implementing this commitment by approving and facilitating a comprehensive range of accommodations. This effort is supported by an adequately funded mechanism to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of our services.

Policy Framework

The university’s reasonable accommodation policy ensures that necessary adjustments are provided to meet the unique needs of persons with disabilities. This includes, but is not limited to, academic accommodations, physical access modifications, and technological support. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of ability.

Academic Accommodations

Our academic accommodations aim to remove barriers related to course requirements and foster an inclusive learning environment. Adjustments may include deadline extensions, conversion of materials into accessible formats, and the provision of specialized technology to meet disability-related needs. Support services such as tutoring, aides, and writing assistance are also available to enhance student success.

Testing Accommodations

To ensure a fair testing environment, we offer tailored accommodations such as extended time, quiet testing spaces, and assistive technologies like text-to-speech software or large print exam formats. These accommodations are designed to support diverse disabilities while maintaining academic integrity.

Classroom Accommodations

We provide classroom adjustments to ensure students have full access to learning spaces. These accommodations include specialized seating, note-taking services, or the use of assistive technology like Smart pens or laptops. Additionally, classrooms are equipped with adaptive furniture and audio-visual aids to meet various accessibility needs.

Housing Accommodations

The university offers tailored housing accommodations for students and staff who require proximity to campus due to mobility or health-related challenges. These accommodations ensure accessible living spaces within a 50-meter radius of campus and provide priority housing assignments for individuals with specific needs.

Implementation Mechanism

The DSO works in collaboration with various university departments to deliver comprehensive support. Our office evaluates the individual needs of students, staff, and faculty and coordinates appropriate accommodations, such as:

  • Assistive technologies and software.

  • Alternative formats for learning materials (e.g., braille, large print, or digital formats).

  • Extended time or alternative settings for exams.

  • Sign language interpreters or note-takers.

  • Accessible classrooms and campus facilities.

Funding and Support

An-Najah National University allocates dedicated funds to maintain and improve accessibility measures across campus. This funding ensures that all accommodations, services, and facilities for persons with disabilities are not only available but are also continuously developed and refined to meet evolving standards. Our DSO collaborates with campus stakeholders to monitor the effectiveness of accommodations and proactively address emerging needs, ensuring that individuals with disabilities are fully supported throughout their academic and professional journeys.

Ongoing Support and Awareness

The DSO provides ongoing training for faculty and staff to raise awareness of disability rights and enhance their capacity to support individuals with disabilities. This training ensures that the university maintains a supportive and inclusive environment where every individual has the opportunity to succeed.
