On October 29th, 2018, An-Najah's chemical engineering student Saqr Abu Hatab, was ranked the 1st place and awarded the best poster presentation in the 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting. This global conference was held over 4 days from October 28th- November 2nd, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA, the U.S.
The conference shed light on various themes such as Advances in Fossil Fuel Energy, Environmental Aspects; Applications and Implications of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology, Food Innovation and Engineering, Innovations of Green Process Engineering for Sustainable Energy and Environment and Catalysis and Reaction Engineering.
Student Abu Hatab represented the research team that included Dr. Amjad El-Qanni, Prof. Amer El-Hamouz and Eng. Maryam Hmoudah. He presented a poster titled: “Competitive adsorption study of cationic and anionic compounds over in-house prepared silicate based nanosorbcats”. The abstract of this conference paper can be found in this Link.
This work, Dr. El-Qanni, says: “aims at finding innovative solutions for the water crisis in Palestine as the decline in freshwater amounts and the increase in the wastewater disposal are getting progressively critical”. The team presented cutting-edge findings, evidenced when Abu Hatab won the first place in the Undergraduate Student Poster Competition within the Environmental Science and Engineering Session, and thus, placing An-Najah National University in rank number 1, followed by Yale University and the University of Connecticut in ranks 2 and 3, respectively. “Such a global recognition would not have been possible without the hard work and the team spirit we have in our group”, Dr. El-Qanni said. The winners’ announcement can be seen in this Video.
The team paid tribute to the Dean of Scientific Research at An-Najah National University and the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education for funding the project.
