Prof. Sawalha was selected from a highly competitive slate of applicants from different parts of the world. The evaluation was based on the participant’s research production, their different toxicology activities and their role in raising people’s awareness on toxicology.

This award paves the way for academic and research collaboration between An-Najah and the American universities in terms of toxicology and graduate programmes development.

GSSEP aims at increasing the global impact of toxicology on human health and safety by working to strengthen toxicology programs and capacity in universities in developing countries.

Prof. Sawalha (born 1969) is the first Palestinian woman named to the Women in Science Hall of Fame. She was honored for her achievement of establishing the first Poison Control and Drug Information Centre in Palestine in 2006. She is also first female full Professor in Palestine.
