An-Najah National University Secures First Place in the International English Language Olympia for Universities 2024 – Teamwork Category
The English Department student team from An-Najah National University earned first place in the inaugural International English Language Olympia for Universities 2024 in the Teamwork Category. The team also won the prestigious Best Video Award, outperforming 57 participating university teams. The competition took place in Amman, Jordan, from December 5–7, 2024.
The team comprised students Raja Ledawi, Nora Yaseen, Amal Alawneh, Mesk Azar, and Mira Tammam, under the guidance of Dr. Abdalkarim Zawawi from the Department of English. The students excelled in all aspects of the competition, including theatrical performance, community service, research projects, teamwork, and the English language proficiency exam.
In the Community Service segment, the team led a three-week volunteer initiative integrating children with developmental challenges into society through traditional Palestinian games and activities. For the Research Project, they developed a virtual museum showcasing Palestinian heritage through traditional clothing, tools, and culinary recipes. Their work included creating a bilingual dictionary of traditional Palestinian terms with English translations and audio pronunciations, preserving cultural identity through a scientific approach. In the Theatrical Performance, the team delivered a compelling portrayal of the struggles faced by a Palestinian family in Gaza under Israeli aggression, emphasizing the systematic attempts to erase Palestinian cultural identity.
At the closing ceremony, the An-Najah team was recognized with trophies, medals, and certificates of appreciation, celebrating their outstanding efforts and exceptional performance. This remarkable achievement adds a significant milestone to An-Najah National University's legacy of academic and cultural excellence.
