An-Najah National University has achieved a remarkable milestone in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024, ranking 103rd globally out of 1,477 universities, 1st in Palestine, and 6th in the Arab world. The university was also recognized in the prestigious Golden Cluster, a category that celebrates institutions demonstrating exceptional commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.


The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is a globally respected system that evaluates universities based on sustainability criteria, including infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, and education and research. An-Najah excelled in all categories, earning a position within the top 1% globally in the fields of energy and sustainable education and research, reaffirming its commitment to environmental and social sustainability.

This recognition reflects An-Najah’s strategic efforts to integrate sustainability into its academic programs, infrastructure, and research initiatives. The university has implemented a range of impactful projects, including renewable energy stations, expanded green spaces, and state-of-the-art research laboratories focused on sustainable development. These initiatives underscore its role as a regional leader in addressing environmental challenges through innovation and education.

Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, emphasized that this recognition is a testament to the university’s enduring commitment to sustainability and academic excellence. He stated that the achievement highlights An-Najah’s vision to promote sustainability and enhance environmental awareness at both regional and global levels, further cementing its position as a pioneer in sustainability-focused education and research. Prof. Waleed Sweileh, Director of the Department of Academic Rankings and Dean of Scientific Research, added that this ranking validates the university’s strategic efforts to turn research into practical solutions. He stressed that An-Najah’s innovative approach to entrepreneurship and sustainable development is key to its success.

This achievement builds on An-Najah’s earlier successes in sustainability-focused rankings. The university was ranked 1st in Palestine and among the top 4% of Arab universities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024, reflecting its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, An-Najah secured the 1st position in Palestine, 30th in the Arab World, and 820th globally in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, further demonstrating its leadership in driving environmental and social impact.
