In a landmark achievement that underscores its global academic leadership, An-Najah National University has been honored with the International Strategy of the Year Award at the Times Higher Education (THE) Arab University Rankings 2024. The award was announced during a prestigious ceremony held on Friday, December 5, 2024, in Dubai, attended by distinguished leaders in higher education from across the globe.


The award was received by Dr. Abdulsalam Khayyat, Vice President for Academic Affairs, alongside a university delegation that included Dr. Nidal Dweikat, Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality; Prof. Waleed Sweileh, Dean of Scientific Research and Director of the Academic Rankings Department; and Eng. Anan Al-Aghbar from the Office of the University President.

This recognition is the result of collaborative efforts led by the university’s Academic Rankings Department in partnership with Dr. Amjad El-Qanni, Director of the Academic and Professional Development Center, and Ms. Summer Abu Mughli, International Affairs Coordinator. Their award-winning project, titled "An-Najah National University's International Strategy of the Year: A Comprehensive Approach to Global Collaboration in 2023," demonstrated a forward-thinking strategy designed to build impactful global partnerships and promote academic and cultural exchange.

The project achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of hundreds of international agreements with institutions across 17 countries, the launch of innovative virtual exchange programs involving 500 students, and the recruitment of international faculty and students to strengthen academic and research collaborations. Additionally, An-Najah played a leading role in global grant programs and international organizations such as the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), under the leadership of Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President for International and External Relations.

Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, expressed immense pride in this accomplishment, stating that it reflects the university’s steadfast commitment to global collaboration as a foundation for enhancing the quality of education and research. He emphasized that the university’s comprehensive approach represents not only a strategy but a sustainable vision aimed at strengthening its global standing and contributing positively to the international academic community.

Times Higher Education commended An-Najah National University for its resilience in overcoming challenges and achieving global prominence. The university’s continuous efforts in fostering strong international partnerships were highlighted as a significant contributor to its academic success and future potential.

An-Najah National University submitted seven projects for consideration at the awards and was shortlisted for three prestigious categories: Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year, Student Recruitment of the Year, and International Strategy of the Year. These nominations reflect the university’s innovative approach to education, student empowerment, and global engagement.

The Times Higher Education Arab Awards celebrate excellence in higher education across the Arab world, focusing on transformative initiatives in research, innovation, and collaboration. The International Strategy of the Year Award recognizes institutions that excel in fostering global partnerships and advancing education and research on an international scale.

With this achievement, An-Najah National University solidifies its position as one of the leading higher education institutions in the Arab world, reaffirming its dedication to innovation, leadership, and the provision of high-quality education.
