On Thursday 16 February, 2023, the Public Safety Committee at An-Najah National University organized an emergency evacuation drill for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s staff and students. The drill aimed to promote emergency safety awareness and preparedness among the university community and to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond to potential emergencies.

The drill took place in the University’s New Campus where seven floors of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology building were evacuated. Approximately 4000 students and staff members were safely evacuated within two minutes using the designated evacuation routes and exits.

Prior to the drill, the University's Public Safety Committee had developed a comprehensive emergency plan to guide students and staff in case of an emergency. The plan included instructions on how to evacuate the building safely and efficiently.

"Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we take emergency preparedness very seriously," said Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, University President. "We are pleased to report that the drill was a success, and we will continue to work with local emergency response agencies to improve our emergency preparedness."

The University regularly conducts emergency preparedness drills to ensure that students and staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergency situations. These drills are an essential part of the University's commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all members of its community.

The Public Safety Committee will study the elements and issues identified during the evacuation process to develop and accelerate the implementation of the plan to achieve a better level of behavior and an effective response to future precautionary evacuations.
