On Monday, November 26, 2018, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received a delegation from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France. The delegation included Professor Julien Talpin, Scholar of Political Science at CNRS and Professor at Lille 2 University of Health and Law, Ms. Flora Yousef and Dr. Njala' Nakhleh from the French Institute.

The delegation was also received by Dr. Samah Saleh, Head of the Social Work Department, Dr. Sami Al-Kilani from the Faculty of Educational Science and Teacher Training, the International Office and the PR Department.


The meeting aimed to discuss possible means of mutual cooperation with regards to expertise, student exchange programmes, and research partnership. It also explored the economic and political situation in Palestine as well as the developments in the Palestinian cause.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and briefed them on An-Najah's history, academic programmes, students, campuses, community services, scientific centres and the financial and political challenges that encounter higher education in Palestine.

In turn, the delegation thanked An-Najah staff for their hospitality and discussed the possibility of creating partnership with Palestine through student and research exchange programmes as there are several interested French scholars who are willing to experience Palestinian daily life.

The delegation then headed to the Old Campus library where they held a workshop, in cooperation with the Social Work Department, titled: "How We Liberate Palestine: Local Action and National Fight".

The workshop included discussing a number of research papers for Palestinian scholars and was attended by a number of An-Najah staff and MA students.

The Palestinian speakers were: Dr. Sami Al-Kilani whose paper focused on nonviolent resistance, Dr. Ayman Yousef from the Arab American University of Jenin who talked about Khan Al-Ahmar experience, Dr. Fadwa Al-Labadi who shed light on women's movement, as well as Mr. Raed Dabee, An-Najah's PhD Candidate to the University of Bordeaux in France who talked about youth participation in the national movement.

Prof. Talpin gave a presentation titled: "Rethinking the Political Representation of the Working Class in a Neo-Liberal Age, Community Organizing in the U.S, France and Beyond" where he discussed the democratic crisis of the working class in Europe and the U.S.

At the end of the seminar, the speakers answered the audience questions on the topics discussed.
