On Monday, February 19th, 2018, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received a delegation from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany. The visit was coordinated by the Office of International Development and External Affairs at An-Najah.


The delegation included Prof. Martin Leiner, Director of Jena Centre for Reconciliation Studies (JCRS) and Dr. Zeina Barakat from the University of Jena. The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Amjad Abu El-Ezz, Professor at the Political Science Department at An-Najah.

The meeting aimed at discussing possible means of mutual cooperation between the two universities regarding a joint project regarding the topic of reconciliation. An MOU was also prepared for signing by the two universities.

Prof. Natsheh was pleased to cooperate with the University of Jena as it is one of the oldest universities in Germany, having been established in 1558. He talked about the possibility of expanding the cooperation to other areas and having other sub-agreements between universities' departments and centres.

He also talked about An-Najah students, academic programmes and scientific centres as well as the An-Najah National University Hospital, the E-Learning Centre and the Media Centre.

Prof. Leiner commended An-Najah’s administration for establishing the large amount of academic programmes despite the political and financial problems it faces. He also stressed the importance of having joint exchange programmes for students and staff.

Dr. Abu El-Ezz finally talked about the project's objectives and expected outcomes and introduced the delegation to success stories of joint academic programmes with European and American universities.

At the end of the visit, the delegation was given a tour of the New Campus to learn more about its faculties and programmes.
