On Monday, October 30th, 2017, the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training at An-Najah in cooperation with Project Hope held a lecture on the American culture and Rock and Roll music.

The lecture was given by the American volunteer Mr. Robert Hendryx, specialist in physics and astronomy and has an interest in the history of American art and music.


 

The event was part of a series of activities carried out by the volunteer at the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Educational Sciences including workshops on science teaching methods, astronomy and other scientific topics.

The volunteer talked about the beginnings of Rock and Roll which was founded by Sam Philips in the 1950s. He said that Rock music started as a combination of Blues and country music.

He also talked about Philips life and his musical journey and paled a number of Sun Records productions. He then discussed the impact of Rock and Roll on the American culture and the new generation of musicians around the world.

At the end of the lecture, the volunteer answered the students' questions regarding Rock and Roll.

  • The meeting was also attended by Dr. Alia Assali, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training; Dr. Ahmed Qabha, Director of the American Studies Minor Programme and Teaching Assistant at the English Department; Dr. Dana Yaseen, Dr. Bilal Abu Eideh and Dr. Rasha Shakhsheer from the Faculty of Educational Sciences; Dr. Saed Abu Hijleh from the Geography Department and Mrs. Shatha Jararaa from PR as well as a number of American studies and education students.
  • It is worth mentioning that the Mr. Hendryx programme and activities are supervised by Project Hope Office.
