On its continuous march to set a precedent of success, An-Najah National University is the first Palestinian university to be granted the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) international evaluation for another year.

In addition to seven engineering programmes accredited in 2014, An-Najah has obtained accreditation for two new programmes in the Engineering and Technology from the ABET. Established in the United States in 1932, ABET is a non-profit and non-governmental accrediting agency for academic programmes in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology worldwide.

The official accreditation decision was issued at the annual meeting of June 2016; it is worth mentioning that a delegation from the ABET evaluation accreditation commission had visited the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology last November 2015.

On this occasion, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah, expressed his happiness and pride at this distinguished achievement on the national and regional levels. He went on saying that this accomplishment adds to the University’s series of great achievements in recent years. He stressed his continuous support for upgrading and developing the quality of education and ensuring the quality of all programmes of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and the other colleges.

Prof. Natsheh praised the remarkable efforts which have been made during the period of preparation for adoption by the Dean of Engineering and Information Technology and members of teaching and administrative bodies. He further commended the outstanding effort by the Quality and Accreditation Unit- ABET Centre, which was established in 2011for the specific reason of preparing  programmes of Engineering and Technology Information for the ABET accreditation and follow up to ensure quality control in the Faculty.

Prof. Natsheh said that this accreditation will provide greater employment opportunities for graduates of accredited engineering programmes; the criteria and standards that they are evaluated on are the same as those used by U.S universities.

Prof. Natsheh stressed that academic accreditation standards aim at quality control and ensure the continuous improvement of engineering education that meets the needs of all those concerned. The engineering standards include eight elements of the students, the goals of the educational programme and its outputs and methods of evaluation; in addition to the process of continuous improvement, the nature of the curriculum-based education programme and the availability of a sufficient number of faculty members with high efficiency in all sub-disciplines of the programme. Furthermore, it provides equipment and facilities appropriate to the educational process such as classrooms, laboratories, and computer equipment and information. It also provides institutional support and financial resources as well as constructive leadership to ensure quality and continuity.
