On Wednesday, August 10th, 2016, as part of Enhancing Practical Training Students Skills Project, the Practical Training Centre in collaboration with the Business Innovation and Partnership Centre (NABIC) at An-Najah and the Palestinian Food Industries Union (PFIU) held the concluding conference of the “Enhancing Practical Training Students Skills” project at the Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium in the Old Campus. The conference was supported by the Quality Development Fund of the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education and funded by the World Bank.


In the opening session, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah thanked the project supporters and mentioned that the project contributed in enhancing the quality of higher education in Palestine.

He stressed the importance of practical training and the community based education of which the project improved at An-Najah and other Palestinian universities.

In turn, Prof. Amer Hamouz, Director of An-Najah Practical Training Centre and Project Director said that the project aimed at achieving academic-industrial integration and filling the gap between the academic and industrial sectors. He also pointed out that the project promoted An-Najah’s Practical Training Centre’s role in achieving integration and commended partnership the university has with PFIU.

Mr. Abdulhakeem Faqha’, Member at PFIU Board of Directors talked about the PFIU purposes as it aspires to cooperate with higher education institutions to achieve academic-industrial integration and improving food processing in Palestine.

The conference’s 2nd session shed light on academic-industrial integration mechanisms and included presentations by Dr. Yahya Saleh, Director of NaBIC; Mr. Mr. Nasr Atyani, Director General of PFIU and Mr. Rafi Daraghmeh, Director of Alumni Unit at An-Najah.

In the 3rd session, representatives of six participating companies held an open discussion on academic-industrial integration outcomes models. The companies are Al-Arz Factory, Siniora Company, Al-Safa Diary Factory, Palestine Poultry Company (AZIZA), Al-Jebrini Dairy and Foods Industries Company and Sinokrot Food Company.

The concluding session tackled the project’s outcomes assessment and included speeches by Engineer Tamer Haddad, Academic Training Supervisor; Dr. Emtyaz Khaled, Project’s Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor and Eng. Mohammad Sharee'a, Advisor of Preparing the Practical Training Guide of the Industrial Sector.

At the end of the conference, Professors Natsheh and Hamouz honored the World Bank and PFIU representatives and the participating companies’.

Notes:

The conference was also attended by An-Najah vice presidents and assistants, heads of academic and administrative departments and a number of representatives of PFIU companies.

The conference sessions were moderated by Mr. Basem Gheith, Practical Training Coordinator at An-Najah, Eng. Haddad and Prof. Hamouz.

The conference also included a projects exhibition conducted by An-Najah students through the project.
