On Monday, April 25th, 2016, Dr. Muath Al-Asmar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Finance and Banking of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at An-Najah visited the University of Pavia in Italy.


The visit was over a week from April 25th – May 2nd, 2016 and was part of the EU Erasmus Plus funded projects that support academic exchange for staff and students among universities around the world.

The visit aimed at offering an opportunity to participate in teaching financial markets courses and building joint research projects.

Dr. Asmar gave a number of lectures to MA students on efficient markets hypothesis, behavioral finance and momentum investment strategy. He also discussed the possibility of conducting joint research with a number of professors and researchers at the Faculty of Economics at Pavia University.

Dr. Asmar was invited to visit the University of Pavia again to give lectures on financial markets and methods for quantitative finance.

Founded in 1361, the University of Pavia is one of the oldest universities in Europe that offers a wide variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching organized in 18 Departments and has study programmes at all levels: Bachelor’s degrees, single-cycle Masters Degrees, research degrees, specialty schools and level I and II Masters degrees.

Dr. Asmar holds a Post Doctorate in Exchange Traded Fund from the School of Economics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. He also holds a PhD in a special topic in Market Microstructure from the School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
