Students of the Nutrition and Food Technology Department discussed their projects that were implemented during the first semester within the course of food preservation and manufacturing, in partnership with private sector companies. A number of courses were developed in light of the college development programs, which are funded by the Ministry of Higher Education – Project Development Unit.

The project aims to link graduates with the job market through ‎signing a memorandum of ‎understanding and cooperation agreements ‎with food industry companies. This would provide ‎students with the ‎opportunity to learn using new methods, such as experiential learning ‎and ‎project-based learning.‎

During the past semester, Al-Arz Factory, Sanawber Factory, Al-Zahraa ‎Factory and the Turkish Palestinian Food Industries –Zita- participated ‎as active partners in these projects. Students were divided into groups to ‎visit a factory and start examining the proposed project and ‎documenting the manufacturing steps. The students followed a scientific ‎research methodology that is available in the databases of the university ‎and can be accessed by students. These databases allow students to ‎access the latest scientific publications related to the proposed research ‎topic, and to carry out experiments relevant to the proposed projects. ‎

This pilot experiment was held for the first time within this course under ‎the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Sabah. The course achieved the ‎desired objectives of integrating practical training of food manufacturing ‎in the learning process. Students showed appreciation for this ‎opportunity, as they discussed the results of their studies with the ‎lecturers and academic staff of the Nutrition and Food Technology ‎Department. A group of students submitted project proposals to ‎continue their projects during next semester., which will be funded by the ‎Department of Agriculture Programs –Quality Improvement Fund (QIF). ‎On the other hand, the partner companies welcomed the ideas of ‎students and the results they reached through their projects and ‎researched.‎
