Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, played a key role in the vibrant discussions and initiatives at the fifty-sixth Session of the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities, held in the city of Baghdad from March 3 to March 6.


The conference welcomed distinguished participants, including Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, and Prof. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research in Iraq, alongside several ministers of higher education from Arab nations and university presidents.

Prof. Zaid's presence was in response to an official invitation extended by the General Secretariat of the Association of Arab Universities, based on an invitation from the University of Baghdad.

Prof. Zaid's participation in the conference emphasized An-Najah University's commitment to engaging with prestigious institutions worldwide and highlighted the university's dedication to academic collaboration amid challenges and restrictions in Palestine. The university's participation underscores its unwavering efforts to bolster its pioneering scientific role and emphasize the importance of academic cooperation across Arab nations.

Dr. Salama underscored the significance of continual engagements among Arab universities, emphasizing their role in shaping future plans for higher education to enhance the competitive capacities of Arab universities locally and globally. He highlighted the Association of Arab Universities as a catalyst for effective joint Arab action, fostering collaboration, and communication, and elevating the quality of higher education in the Arab region.

During the conference, Prof. Al-Aboudi introduced the initiative to establish the Arab Higher Education Zone, encompassing all Arab higher education institutions. 

This strategic move aims to fortify reforms, address challenges, and mirror the successful experience of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The conference's overarching goal was to foster scientific and academic cooperation among Arab universities, addressing challenges within higher education in the Arab region and formulating plans to elevate the standard of higher education for sustainable Arab development. Eminent figures, including university presidents, representatives of university associations, and specialists, actively participated in these sessions.

On the conference sidelines, An-Najah University seized the opportunity to solidify academic ties by signing partnership agreements with various Arab universities. These agreements aim to enhance collaboration in diverse academic and research fields, further reinforcing An-Najah National University's commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and innovation on the international stage.
