Nablus, Palestine — The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at An-Najah National University has proudly received the esteemed "PAL.G.A.P" (Palestinian Good Agricultural Practices) certification, recognizing the superior quality of fresh agricultural products cultivated on the university’s farms. This certification underscores An-Najah University’s commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability, positioning it as a leader in adopting best practices in Palestine’s agricultural sector.

The "PAL.G.A.P" certification, among Palestine’s highest agricultural quality standards, was awarded as part of a collaborative initiative to enhance community resilience, livelihoods, and food security through sustainable agricultural practices. This initiative is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and Islamic Relief France (SIF), with implementation led by An-Najah National University in partnership with the Palestinian Economic and Social Development Center (ESDC), the Palestinian Standards Institute (PSI), and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

Developed by the Palestinian Standards Institute, "PAL.G.A.P" is tailored to meet the specific agricultural, climatic, and environmental conditions in Palestine, drawing from global standards such as GlobalGAP. The certification assures that agricultural practices meet rigorous criteria, encompassing soil health preservation, minimized use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, conservation of natural resources, and adherence to occupational health and safety protocols. These standards guarantee high-quality, safe agricultural products for Palestinian consumers, from farm to market.

Dr. Bilal Rahhal, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, expressed immense pride in this achievement, stating, “Securing the 'PAL.G.A.P' certification is a testament to our dedication to advancing agricultural quality and sustainability at An-Najah University. This milestone reflects the hard work of our faculty members and students, and it emphasizes our role in promoting agricultural excellence and innovation.” He added, “This certification demonstrates our commitment to training the next generation of agricultural professionals in sustainable practices aligned with scientific standards.”

By adhering to "PAL.G.A.P" standards, An-Najah University is also contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in advancing food security, conserving resources, and fostering education rooted in global agricultural benchmarks. This accomplishment not only enhances the university’s agricultural production but also strengthens the skills of students who will lead Palestine’s future in sustainable farming and food security initiatives.
