Medical Sciences Research Unit

The unit provides laboratories equipped with advanced instruments to implement specialized projects in molecular medicine aimed at a deeper understanding of diseases and the underlying molecular mechanisms, which facilitates targeted therapeutic innovations. The unit recruits researchers and graduate students to implement their projects in the unit’s laboratories and provides them with logistical, technical, and advisory support. The unit also constitutes a hub for clinical research groups and organizes events that enhance the visibility of the research outcomes, and facilitate international networking and alliance construction with regional and international research institutions.

Regenerative Medicine Approaches for the Treatment of Chronic Wounds 

The wound healing process is complex, consisting of four distinct stages: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Disruptions in this process can lead to chronic wounds, imposing a considerable health and economic burden. Engineered skin tissues (EST) comprising various components have been suggested  as a potential therapeutic approach. The project's objective is to produce engineered dermis tissues (EDTs) to serve as a substitute for the dermis layer, aiming to enhance and excelerate the wound healing process.
