An-Najah University Champions Women, Peace, and Education at Global Summit in Iceland
An-Najah National University participated in a high-level global summit held on 10 November 2025 at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, marking the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on “Women, Peace and Security.” The summit brought together international leaders and decision-makers to discuss women’s roles in peacebuilding and sustainable development.
The University was represented by Ms. Summer Abu Mughli, International Relations Coordinator at the Global Partnerships and Initiatives Office, who took part in a panel discussion on women’s contributions to building and sustaining peace. During the session, she highlighted An-Najah’s TESI Initiative, implemented in cooperation with UNIMED, which supports students from Gaza in continuing their education and strengthens resilience through access to higher education.
Abu Mughli emphasized the central role of education in promoting peace, equality, and social cohesion, and highlighted the contribution of Palestinian women in leadership and decision-making despite ongoing challenges. She also underlined the importance of ensuring women’s meaningful participation in peace processes, in line with the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
The summit was jointly organized by the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, UN Women Iceland, and several international partners, and was accompanied by the Global Forum on Women and Leadership, in which Abu Mughli also participated.
