On Sunday November 27, 2022, the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at An-Najah National University, in partnership with the student branch of the Palestinian Animal League (PAL) at the University, organized a special workshop titled "Stray Dogs: Problems and Solutions."


The workshop was attended by Mr. Muhammad Al-Daqqa, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Dr. Nimer Khraim, Director of the Veterinary Department at the University, Mr. Moath Kettaneh, Representative of the student branch of the Palestinian Animal League (PAL) at the University, Dr. Heba Al-Faris, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Abdel Karim Abu Zneid, Head of the Palestinian Veterinarians Syndicate as well as representatives from veterinary departments in all governorates of Palestine, representatives from various organizations specialized in animal care, and experts in this field.

In the opening speech, Mr. Daqqa welcomed the attendees and emphasized on the University's commitment to addressing all societal issues of interest to society. He also stressed the significance of fostering closer ties with all organizations and associations of the society in order to further the common good. 

The event offered the occasion to propose and discuss new initiatives and solutions in support of the process of building and implementing sustainable strategies for stray dog population management in Palestine.

The participants discussed good practice models for the management of street dogs that the government can further implement in our community in order to maintain proper ecological balance. They also discussed how the Israeli settlement has affected the number of stray dogs in Palestine.

Some of the activities of the Palestinian municipalities in stray dog population control were presented and discussed during the workshop.
