On Monday, November 1st, 2021, Prof. Abdel Naser Zaid, An-Najah University President received the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland to discuss possible means of mutual cooperation in different fields. The delegation from the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process included Margrete Laland, Liaison Specialist, Daniela Penkova, Senior Staff Assistant, and Basem Khalidi, Senior Political Advisor.


The delegation was received by Dr. Kherieh Rassas, An-Najah’s Vice President for International and External Relations, and Dr. Abdulsalam Khayyat, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The aim of the visit was to discuss possible means of collaboration ‎between the two parties in ‎academic and research. Also, it aimed to learn more about An-Najah University's academic programs, projects and development plans.

Prof. Zaid welcomed the delegation and briefed them on An-Najah's history, academic programs for MA and PhD levels, campuses, research achievements, and rankings including the recent Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Ranking 2022 as the University has been ranked 1st in Palestine, 11th in Arab World, and among top 100 in this ranking.

‎Additionally, he talked about the challenges that face higher education in Palestine, and An-Najah's strategic goals towards internationalization. Mr. Wennesland commended An-Najah's academic and research ‎developments despite the ‎difficult political and financial situations.

The delegation also met with a number of An-Najah's students from different specializations to discuss several issues of concern to students.
