On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, An-Najah National University represented by Dr. Saida Affouneh, Deputy President for digitalization and e-learning, took part in an e-symposium about women's participation in education policy and planning. The event was organized by Manhajiyat, an educational platform that aims to improve teaching in the Arab world through critical dialogues and discussions that lead to innovation and creativity.

The event included discussions about the equal participation of woman in the education system as a student, a teacher and an educator stressing the importance of her participation in leadership roles in policy formulation and program development in the educational sector in the Arab world.

Dr. Affouneh discussed women’s situation in Palestine based on her experience as an educational specialist. She explained that women's stereotypical image often keeps them from realizing their full potential and prevent them from improving themselves. She added:" Women must help themselves to change the negative trends in the society’s culture, which impedes active women participation in decision making positions."

Dr. Affouneh called relevant actors and institutions to put in place the necessary policies or adopt the measures, interventions and procedures to embark on changing the situation of women in the Palestinian society.

It is worth mentioning that the event was attended by Samia Bashara, Managing Director of Tarsheed, Asmaa Al-Fdalah, Director of Research at World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), Dr. Rassaf Koke, IBAEM’s Consultant, Dr. Rima Karami, Associate Professor of education management, policies and leadership at the education department in AUB, and Haifa Najar, Director-General of Aliyyah and Mutran School.
