On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, An-Najah National University conducted a training workshop titled "Good Practices for the Renovation of Higher Education Buildings in Palestine" as part of the MED-EcoSuRe project activities under the ENI CBC MED Program framework.

The training workshop focused on the technical and economic impact of implemented systems at An-Najah University’s buildings in Palestine, with a particular emphasis on the performance of solar PV systems, implemented energy audits, and the energy management strategy developed for the University as a model for zero emissions in higher education buildings. The workshop explained the methodology and shared the results of case studies for conducting retrofitting practices in public buildings in Palestine.

The training included a presentation on the status of renewable energy in Palestine and the plan of the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority (PENRA) until 2030, as well as the master plan of Palestinian Electricity Transmission LTD (PETL) in generation and transmission for 2030.

The University focused on and shared innovative tools for the planning and optimization of building retrofitting developed within the project, with a particular emphasis on a decision aid tool that analyzes the current situation of the building for every individual system (heating, cooling, DHW, and lighting) and implements the best options for achieving significant energy savings while maintaining occupant comfort.

During the workshop, the University presented an online platform that promotes collaboration and communication among all stakeholders involved in improving the energy efficiency of the University buildings. This platform serves as a Living Lab community that encourages cooperation and co-creation for building energy optimization.

The training workshop brought together policymakers, representatives from Palestinian higher education institutions, engineers, energy managers, and interested students to share knowledge of project results related to energy efficiency measures  and to obtain approved policies from decision-makers to accelerate the energy retrofitting of the University buildings in Palestine through public-private partnerships.
