An-Najah Hosts a Delegation from the Open University of Cyprus in Greece
On Thursday, June 13, 2019, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received a delegation from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication of the Open University of Cyprus in Greece. The delegation was headed by Sofia Iordanidou, Associate Professor of Journalism and Communication at the Open University of Cyprus, and President of the Advanced Media Institute. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Farid Abu Dheir, Staff member of the Print and Electronic Journalism Department the University.
The visit focused on discussing possible areas of future joint cooperation between the two universities in the realms of student and staff scholarship programs, joint exchange programs, and research partnership. Both parties have agreed to develop academic relations and work towards developing joint courses in journalism in the near future.
Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation, stressed the importance of the mutual cooperation between An-Najah and Greek universities, and briefed them on An-Najah’s history, students, staff, academic programs and campuses. He further talked about the University's academic developments and the national and international achievements including global rankings.
The delegation then headed to the New Campus Library where they held a workshop in cooperation with the Print and Electronic Journalism Department, titled: "The critical approach & Reflection to the message that is considered necessary today for the journalists."
The workshop included the screening of three films on different topics including international law, human rights, and the missing people from the war, and was attended by a number of An-Najah staff and journalism students.
At the end of the workshop, the speakers answered the audience questions on the topics discussed. Thereafter, the delegation was taken on a tour of the New Campus, including the Media Center, (located in the Faculty of Fine Arts) and the Old City of Nablus.
