WIE and the American Corner Nablus Host Panel for 16 Days Against Gender Based Violence
On Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, the IEEE WIE (Women In Engineering Society) and the American Corner Nablus organized an awareness day in solidarity with the 16-day World Campaign Against Violence. The event included a panel discussion with Ms. Futna Khalifa from the Palestinian Working Women's Development Association (PWWDA) and Ms. Majd Abdo, the Legal Advisor in Nablus Governorate.
Ms. Khalifa gave a detailed explanation of the violence and its types and how women can protect themselves from violence directed against them, and showed the role of local associations in helping battered women. Ms. Abdo gave an overview of the laws that protect women from violence.
At the end of the event, a number of different gender based violence scenarios were presented to the students who were asked to propose ideas on how to respond to these situations. The specialist and the lawyer helped them reach the best solutions.
