As part of the EU OpenMed* project, a delegation from An-Najah National University participated in a training workshop on open learning.

The event was over a week from September 23rd – September 30th, 2017 and took place at the Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy.


The delegation included Dr. Ali Habayeb, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Suheil Salha, Dr. Ali Zuhdi and Dr. Kefah Barham from the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training; Dr. Mustafa Ghanim from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Mr. Mosab Maree and Engineer Raed Khelfa from the E-Learning Centre and Eng. Razi Sayyed from the Computer Centre at An-Najah.

The workshop shed light on open learning, its resources and tools as the participants exhibited models of e-courses and open educational resources (OER) as well as the challenges that encountered the participating countries during the implementation process.

An-Najah delegation gave a presentation on open learning courses offered by the University including "Discover Palestine" and "Genetics and Society". They also displayed statistics that showed the progress made on e-learning at An-Najah over the years.

The workshop also included a discussion on creative commons and how they are applied and used to protect and publish open educational resources on the Internet.

At the end of the workshop, the participants agreed to design models for OER modules where An-Najah team will design three modules on procedural research, teaching Arabic for non-native speakers and using interactive multimedia in education.

  • The workshop included more than 60 participants from Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan, Spain, the U.K and Scotland.
  • OpenMed is an international cooperation project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme of the European Union during the period 15 October 2015 – 14 October 2018. The overarching goal of OpenMed is to raise awareness and facilitate the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) in the Arab Mediterranean countries, with a particular focus on higher education in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Palestine.
