On Monday, June 20th, 2016, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received at his office a delegation from the Modern Languages Association (MLA).


The delegation included David Lloyd, MLA Delegate Assembly Member and Professor at the University of California; Rebecca Comay from the University of Toronto and Margaret Ferguson from the University of California-Davis who met with a number of An-Najah professors in the New Campus. 

The visit aimed at discussing possible means of intellectual exchange and developing exchange programmes between An-Najah and the American universities.

Prof. Natsheh briefed the delegation on An-Najah students, academic programmes and faculties. He also talked in details about the challenges that encounter higher education in Palestine in terms of mobility, academic exchange, research studies, unemployment and community outreach.

Prof. Natsheh talked about the Scholarships Office at the university its cooperation agreements with American and European universities. He further introduced the guests to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Programme and the Arabic Language Test for Non-Native Speakers and explained the progress made on the programme and its aspiration to reach out to the international world.

At the end of their visit, the delegation met with a number of students and professors from the English Language and Literature Department to discuss various educational issues.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Naji Qatanani, Dean of Scientific Research; Dr. Tamer Al-Khatib, Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering; Ms Dalal Radwan from the International Office and Ms Shatha Jararaa from the Public Relations Department at An-Najah.

The delegation was also given a tour of the Old Campus.

MLA is the principal professional association in the United States for scholars of language and literature that aims at developing the study and the teaching of language and literature. It includes over 26,000 members in 100 countries primarily academic scholars, professors and graduate students who study or teach language and literature including English, other modern languages and comparative literature.
