An-Najah National University has received a grant from the Quality Improvement Fund (QIF) Education to Work Transition Project/Additional Financing - Ministry of Education and Higher Education and funded by the World Bank for the project entitled (Strengthening Health Services through Optimizing the Capabilities and Skills of Nursing, Midwifery and Medical Graduates). The project seeks to strengthen students' skills and capabilities, while reinforcing University-health sector cooperation. The project promotes compliance with the upcoming requirement of the Ministry of Health; health professionals should hold the American Heart Association (AHA) certification or participate in distinct practical trainings related Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Paediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) in order to be employed by Palestinian health institutions. The project aims to update the curricula for three major programmes (i.e. nursing, midwifery, and medicine) to include applied/practical course related to BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Accordingly, An-Najah National University seeks the selection and employment of course review consultant for the Medicine programs.

Assignment Objective

An-Najah National University is now considering the selection of a professional and qualified consultant to provide course review for the curriculum of medicine by updating the applied/practical nursing courses based on BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA Guidelines).

This consultancy includes updating the courses of nursing and midwifery programs based on AHA guideline, and internship program. In total, the consultant will review and report on 12 courses for medicine program.

The developed curricula will be the sole responsibility of external consultant, in cooperation with the faculties’ staffs and partners in the health sector.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Review the program syllabus, determine the suggested courses that will be updated based on AHA guidelines, and approve this list from the medicine directors and staffs.
  • Review the suggested courses (expected to be 12 courses) based on AHA guidelines, in cooperation with the medicine directors and staffs, and partners.
  • Review the internship program, and make any modifications (if needed), in cooperation with the medicine directors and staffs, and partners.
  • Present the progress report about updating process (when needed, for department, and world bank (QIF) )
  • Conduct one on one meetings with medicine staffs, and partners from health sector, for purpose of updating process.
  • Present the updated courses results to medicine department, and conduct meeting with medicine staffs to take their feedback about these updated courses, and make any correction and modification.
  • Submit final detail review report to medicine program directors department, and World Bank (if needed).
  • Make any modification based on the instructions of accreditation bodies such as AQAC, or trustees, or deans committee.
  • After implementation the updated courses, make evaluation and feedback analysis on the group of students who take these courses, and make any modification and improvement based on their feedback, if needed.
  • Submit detailed review report about evaluation and feedback results. 


  • The list of suggested courses which need to be updated for program.
  • Modified courses based on AHA-guidelines, and modified internship program each program.
  • New courses as labs for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. (if needed)
  • Updated program (Syllabus) for program.
  • Final Comprehensive Report documenting the whole conducted assignment including but not limited to: implemented activities, results, findings, recommendations, and proposed actions.
  • Evaluation analysis report (feedback report) after the implementation.                                                        

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD Degree from an accredited University in Medicine.
  • Proven experience in conducting curriculum review assignments.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in university teaching.
  • Preferred experience in AHA guidelines
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Excellent reporting and formal writing skills in both English and Arabic.

Contract Period: Sep- 2019 to Feb-2020 (for updating); and during two months after the implementation of updated courses (for evaluation)..

Level of effort: twenty five working days
