Dr. Alaa’ Azmi, Head of the Orthopedic Department at An-Najah National Hospital and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah was elected to represent more than 30,000 surgeon members at AOSpine, an international community of spine surgeons generating, dis­trib­uting, and exchanging knowledge to advance science and the spine care profession through research, education and community development.


AOSpine was formally established in 2003 and today has a community of 6,000 members and 23,000 associates, surgeons, researchers and allied spine professionals. 

Dr. Azmi was elected as a member at the AOSpine International Board and was one of 18 competitors from various parts of the world.

About Dr. Azmi

Dr. Azmi is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and member in a number of societies; namely, the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society and the American Orthopedic Association.

Dr. Azmi has conducted several research papers on scoliosis surgery in children of which techniques are being applied in five universities in the U.S. He also has 9 research papers published by international journals and others submitted in more than 22 international conferences. Recently, he has been elected as a representative member to represent more than 3,000 members in AOSpine.

Moreover, he is the first surgeon specialized in scoliosis surgery in children in Palestine.

When we asked Dr. Azmi about the reason behind his success, he said that he was passionate about his work that he spent his vacations working. He added: “being a doctor id a noble career”
