An-Najah National University, a symbol of Palestinian unity, has been an integral part of its community since its early days as a school. Evolving into one of the most prominent universities in the Arab world, the institution remains dedicated to advancing the well-being of the Palestinian people and society. It continues to embody its national mission by fulfilling its role in supporting the local economy and empowering citizens.
On Sunday, April 14, 2019, An-Najah National University launched the largest edition of the Palestinian National Shopping Festival. Over the span of seven days, the university welcomed nearly half a million Palestinian visitors, who participated in an event aimed at bolstering local businesses and offering affordable products to the community amid challenging economic times. Organized by the Student Council and a preparatory committee, the festival saw participation from over 140 national companies across various industries, offering a wide range of products and services.
In addition to its economic impact, the festival embraced artistic, cultural, and heritage elements, with Palestinian artists performing traditional pieces. The festival also hosted numerous family-oriented activities and competitions, further cementing its status as a celebration of Palestinian culture.
All proceeds from the festival were directed to An-Najah’s Student Aid Fund, which provides financial assistance to students in need. This event reflects the university’s commitment to its broader mission of social responsibility, promoting inclusive economic growth, educational support, and cultural preservation.
Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah National University, highlighted the festival's dual objectives of supporting local industries and generating funds for the Student Aid Fund. He expressed his gratitude to the preparatory committee, sponsors, participating institutions, and the Palestinian public, whose participation was key to the festival’s success.
As the festival concluded, the organizing committee expressed their deep appreciation to all who contributed to its success, including sponsors, media professionals, and the public, whose unwavering support made the event a resounding success.
This festival demonstrates An-Najah’s role in fostering local entrepreneurship and supporting sustainable practices by promoting responsible consumption and production. Through its efforts to enhance access to education and stimulate local economic growth, the university underscores its dedication to creating a resilient, inclusive community.
