An-Najah National University's Business Innovation & Technology Hub (NGate) successfully concluded the Checkmate Hackathon competition on Thursday, March 2, 2023. The competition aimed to create a visual identity for Palestinian companies, including startups.


The closing ceremony was attended by esteemed guests such as His Excellency Eng. Adnan Samara, Chairman of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence, Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of the University, Dr. Hussein Al-Araj, Vice President of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence, Mrs. Kim Thompson, Golden Sponsor of the competition, Eng. Iyad Khalaf, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Distribution Company, and Dr. Mona Demaidi, Director of NGate. The official sponsors of the competition also attended the event.

During the ceremony, Dr. Demaidi highlighted the significance of visual identity for the success of any project and emphasized the importance of proper selection of the logo and trademark. 

The competition included the participation of more than 30 students from the graphic design major, who prepared visual identity projects for Palestinian companies. The projects were evaluated by an arbitration committee, and the winners were announced during the closing ceremony.

During the ceremony, a video showcasing the originality and heritage of Nablus and its Old City was presented, along with a traditional artistic performance by a group of students. Kim Thompson, RAW Coffee Company, Gaza Sky Geeks, Dotline, and Nedco, were the official sponsors of the event.

The ceremony also featured presentations from the six best projects among the qualified teams. After careful consideration, the top three teams were announced. The first place was awarded to the "Tint" team, consisting of Reham Bisharat, Rouaa Hajjaj, and Amira Mansour. The "Space-B" team, comprised of Hamza Abu Ali and Shadan Al Maani, secured the second place, while the "C-Thunder" team, consisting of Amna Abu Salama, Duha Shtayyeh, and Dima Salim, took the third place.

The University is committed to promoting innovation and excellence and will continue to create such opportunities for students to showcase their skills and talents.
