On July 6, 2022, An- Najah National University, Partner in the Med-EcoSuRe Project, participated in the "Higher Education Institutions for Sustainability: What Universities Do and Can Do to Lead Sustainability in Their Territories" Webinar which was organized by UNIMED as part of the Uni-Eco Project and Urban Transports Community - Interreg Med project.


The purpose of the event was to bring together local, international, and Euro-Mediterranean stakeholders so they could share their thoughts, opinions, and future ambitions for promoting sustainable practices in Euro-Mediterranean regions.

Dr. Imad Ibrik, Director of International Project and Grants Center at An Najah University Dr Imad Ibrik from An Najah University presented the pilot demonstration actions implemented including:

  • Building rooftop PV power plants enabling to reduce the CO2 emissions by around 330 Tons/year and the university’s electricity bill
  • Building a solar Carport allowing to fully charge up to 6 electric vehicles, and provides shade to 24 of parking spaces within the university
  • Building a solar tree enabling charging 100 electrical devices, including computers, mobile phones, wheelchairs, and lighting 20 LED lamps

The event included a session titled: “Higher Education Institutions responsibilities and engagement in sustainable development)”. It aimed at promoting a broader involvement of universities at regional and global level for sustainability transition.

Dr. Ibrik shared An-Najah experience in the Med-EcoSuRe project in Palestine. He also provided an overview of the in-progress policies plan for the long-term renovation of the university building stock by combining the technical and economic assessment with the analysis of policy alternatives.
