In line with its ongoing commitment to bridging academic knowledge with real-world applications, An-Najah National University organized a scientific seminar titled “Artificial Intelligence in Sports” on Thursday, in collaboration with the Palestinian Olympic Academy under the Palestinian Olympic Committee.

The event aimed to introduce students, as well as representatives of sports clubs and federations, to the latest applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in sports, and how these technologies can enhance technical performance, training efficiency, and administrative management.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Suleiman Amad and featured presentations by Dr. Bashar Abdel Jawad, President of the Palestinian Taekwondo Federation, and Dr. Alaa Dweikat, a faculty member at An-Najah University. The event was attended by Mr. Mr. Raed Debiy, Assistant to the University President for Community Affairs, along with a delegation from the Palestinian Olympic Committee that included Ms. Samah Murjan, Director of the Office of Major General Jibril Rajoub, and Mr. Nasser Al-Badrasawi, Director of the Sports Federations Department, in addition to faculty members and students.

Discussions during the seminar explored the transformative potential of AI in Palestinian sports—ranging from talent identification and specialized training program design to advanced data analytics for performance monitoring and injury prevention. These innovations, the speakers noted, can significantly enhance athletes’ capabilities and competitiveness at regional and international levels, while supporting research in sports sciences.

The session witnessed strong engagement from students of the Department of Sports Sciences, as well as representatives of national sports federations and clubs, who discussed practical ways to translate these concepts into applied programs for advancing Palestinian sports.

Speaking on behalf of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Ms. Murjan conveyed the greetings of Major General Jibril Rajoub, praising An-Najah’s initiative in organizing such forward-looking academic events that place Palestinian youth at the forefront of global innovation trends. She emphasized that Palestinian universities remain a cornerstone for nurturing talent and driving future progress.

The event concluded with a recognition ceremony, where the Palestinian Olympic Committee presented a commemorative plaque to An-Najah National University and the speakers, in appreciation of their contributions to the success of this pioneering academic event that bridges sports and artificial intelligence, paving the way to strengthen Palestine’s presence on the global sports map.
