An-Najah National University, represented by Dr. Abdel Salam Al-Khayyat, Vice President for Academic Affairs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Environmental Quality Authority to strengthen cooperation on developing a Clean Air Strategy. The signing took place on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in the presence of Eng. Abdul Munem Shehab, Director of the Nablus Office for the Environmental Quality Authority, and Ms. Shahd Musleh. Representing the university were Dr. Muhannad Al-Hajj Hussein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, and Prof. Amer Al-Hamouz from the Faculty of Engineering, who is coordinating this collaboration.


Dr. Al-Khayyat welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing appreciation for the strong collaborative relationship between the university and the Environmental Quality Authority. He emphasized the significance of this partnership in advancing sustainable environmental development and protecting the Palestinian environment. Dr. Al-Khayyat also highlighted the university’s commitment to expanding cooperation with various relevant entities to address local and international community needs in sustainability and environmental protection.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the university will receive an air quality monitoring device (IQAir AirVisual Outdoor), provided by the United Nations Environment Programme through the Environmental Quality Authority. The device will be installed in the university’s Chemical Engineering Department, following agreed technical standards. The agreement also includes provisions for knowledge exchange, training, and shared expertise between the two parties, as well as organizing joint workshops and participating in scientific research related to air quality.

This cooperation reflects An-Najah National University’s active role in engaging with local authorities and organizations to contribute to initiatives that address environmental challenges. By integrating advanced air quality monitoring technologies and fostering knowledge exchange, the university demonstrates its commitment to enhancing community-focused projects that promote sustainable development and environmental awareness.
