An-Najah National University Successfully Concludes 2022/2023 Student Council Elections

Nablus, May 16, 2023 – An-Najah National University concluded its highly anticipated Student Council elections for the 2022/2023 academic year on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in an atmosphere that upheld the university’s democratic values. With an impressive voter turnout of 69.83%, a total of 15,480 students cast their ballots out of 22,169 eligible voters.
The election results saw the Islamic Bloc, "Muslim Palestine Bloc," securing 40 out of the 81 seats in the Student Council. Other participating blocs included Fatah's Shabiba, the student branch of the Fatah movement, which won 38 seats, and the Progressive Student Labour Front, the student wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which secured 3 seats. The Democratic Progressive Student Pole did not win any seats.
The electoral process was conducted across the university's four campuses: the Old Campus, New Campus, Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Tulkarm. Voting took place at 68 polling stations, with over 500 faculty and administrative staff overseeing the election, ensuring transparency and fairness. Extensive media coverage was provided by numerous outlets.
Polling stations opened at 8:30 AM and closed at 3:30 PM, with the vote counting and results announcement carried out on the same day.
Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, University President, along with his deputies, assistants, and members of the Election Supervision Committee, toured several polling stations to monitor the smooth and transparent conduct of the elections.
In a statement following the elections, Prof. Zaid expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Election Supervision Committee, university staff, and the student body for their commitment to ensuring a successful democratic process. “These elections were conducted with responsibility and transparency, reflecting the dedication of our students to their university and its continuous achievements,” he remarked.
Prof. Zaid also highlighted the university's leadership role, noting that An-Najah National University continues to excel as the highest-ranked Palestinian university in global academic rankings.
