An-Najah National University has successfully completed all preparations for the 2023 Student Council elections, which will take place on Tuesday, May 16. This highly anticipated event will see four student blocs compete in what the university expects to be a significant democratic exercise on campus.
The President of the University, Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections, describing the day as a "democratic celebration." He reiterated the university's unwavering commitment to supporting the rights of its students and stressed that the administration stands ready to facilitate a smooth and transparent election process. Prof. Zaid added that the university has made extensive preparations to ensure the elections enhance key values such as democracy, partnership, and active citizenship within Palestinian society.
“We encourage all students to actively participate in this important event. We hope that the winning bloc will work diligently to serve the student body and foster greater involvement in campus life,” Prof. Zaid said.
Mr. Mohammad Daqqa, the Secretary of the Election Committee, echoed the president’s sentiments, underscoring the efforts made to ensure a fair and transparent election. “We have completed all logistical and procedural preparations, and the elections will be conducted with the highest standards of transparency to promote democratic values among the students. The Student Council plays a vital role in developing well-rounded individuals who are engaged in academic, national, and community life,” he noted.
The official spokesperson for the 2023 Election Supervision Committee, Mr. Khaled Mufleh, highlighted the university’s commitment to providing all necessary safeguards for a free and fair election. “The university is ensuring equal treatment for all students, and we are dedicated to maintaining justice and fairness throughout the electoral process,” Mufleh said.
Voting will be open to all registered students of the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, excluding graduate students. Polling stations will open at 8:30 AM and close at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
The university will begin counting votes immediately after the polls close, with the results announced on the same day. As part of the election campaign, an electoral rally was held today, May 15, at the Hikmat Al-Masri Theater on the new campus, where each bloc was allotted time to present their platforms, visions, and goals for serving the student body. All campaign activities have concluded, in accordance with university regulations.
The Election Committee has reminded students to follow all issued guidelines and urged them to exercise their right to vote responsibly. “The success of the election process is a source of pride for the entire university community and reflects the high standards of civic engagement that An-Najah National University strives to promote,” the committee stated.
In a final note, the committee reiterated the importance of responsible campaigning, urging all participants to uphold ethical standards, avoid defamation, and respect all competing blocs and national institutions in line with Palestinian values.
