On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Dr. Sanaa Alsarghali, Professor of Constitutional Law and Holder of the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Democracy at An-Najah National University, attended a number of meetings and events in Kenya at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Hazem Shabat, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Kenya.


Dr. Alsarghali was invited by Palestine’s Embassy in Kenya to foster academic collaboration with Palestinian expertise especially that she is a member of the Palestinian drafting committee of the constitution.

The meetings included a discussion about the process of the constitution-building in Palestine. Dr. Alsarghali also gave a presentation about the constitutional awareness campaign titled: “My Constitution should include me,” which was launched by the Constitutional Studies Centre (NCSC) at the University, in partnership with the Association of Women Media and Development (TAM), and the General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW).

The campaign aimed to raise awareness on constitutional values and spread constitutional culture among various segments of society especially women and university students in Palestine.

Furthermore, Dr. Alsarghali gave a lecture to 125 male and female students studying political sciences, law, and international relations from various universities in Nairobi, including the University of Nairobi and Daystar University.

The visit included a panel discussion on teaching constitutional law in Palestine with professors from the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University, and human rights activists.
