The Department of Nutrition & Food Technology at An-Najah National University in collaboration with Juzoor for Health and Social Development organized an event that is the first of its kind in Palestine titled: “Nutrition and Health Day: Linking Research and Practice” on Monday November 21, 2022, at the University’s New Campus.


The event aimed at focusing on the role of nutrition in prevention and treatment of NCDs, discussing the new findings and promising intervention in nutrition research field locally and worldwide, highlighting the importance of implementing research results in clinical practice, and providing an evidence-based practice for nutritionist to raise the standards of nutrition care process in hospitals and clinics.

The day was attended by Dr. Maen Ishtaiwi, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science, Dr. Heba Al-Fares, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Ola Anabtawi, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology, Dr. Manal Baderasawi, Head of the Nutrition and Health Day’s preparatory committee, Dr. Umayieh Khammash, Director of Juzoor for Health and social Development, and Mr. Ismail Halahleh, President of the Palestinian Dietitians Syndicate.

In the opening speech, Dr. Ishtaiwi welcomed the attendees and talked about the event’s objectives referring to the University's strategic plan which focuses on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In her speech, Dr. Khammash thanked the event participants, organizers and supporters ‎for ‎their efforts and stressed the importance of the event's themes. She also talked about nutrition in the context of the SDGs. In addition, she discussed how education affects children's nutrition, and noted how Juzoor supports research in Palestine because of its scientific significance and its impact on Palestinian policy.

Dr. Baderasawy pointed out that it is crucial to apply research findings in clinical practice in order to connect science with reality especially in medical centers and institutions. Mr. Halahleh talked nutritionists as medical professionals in Palestine.

The meeting event included four sessions that covered several topics including nutrition, health, and nutrition interventions on health. It also included a competition during which an evaluation of the participants’ research papers was held.

It is worth mentioning that the day was sponsored by Curatek Solutions, NutriHealth and International Charity ORG.
