An-Najah National University's EU-Projects Coordinator Office, in ‎cooperation with the National Erasmus+ Office in Palestine organized a virtual workshop about scientific research policies in higher Education institutions in Palestine.


On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, NEO Director Dr. Nedal Al Jayousi and Dr. Imad Brik, EU Project Coordinator at An-Najah University, launched the fifth local activity of the Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs).

Dr. Jayousi opened the workshop, and welcomed participants, commending the great efforts made by HERE members for supporting the Ministry of Higher Education in Palestine and the Palestinian Higher Education institutions.

Also, Dr. Jayousi talked about the importance of this workshop titled “Scientific Research Policies in Higher Education institutions in Palestine”.

This workshop was attended by representative of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ahmad Matar, Head of the National Center for Educational Research and Development Team of National Erasmus Office in Palestine, NEO Program Officer Ms. Iman AlHemri and NEO Office Manager Ms. Nashwa Darwish as well as HERE members, and a group of academic and administrative staff from An-Najah University, Hebron University, and other local universities.

Dr. Ibrik talked about the Intellectual Properties Policies (IPPs) in some of the Palestinian Universities, presenting a study conducted on a Palestinian University on this issue.

Dr. Yahya Saleh, Director of An-Najah Business Innovation & Partnerships (NaBIC) at An-Najah National University presented the Intellectual Property policy at the University, its objectives and criteria. Besides, Dr. Ayman Sultan,  Vice President for Planning and Development Affairs at Palestine Polytechnic University added fruitful information about the Intellectual Property (IP) in general and the IP policy at Polytechnic University in particular.

Furthermore, Dr. Sultan gave a presentation about the ownership of intellectual property, the rights and obligations that ownership of IP should encompass, and how the revenues from IP should be distributed.

Then, Dr. Mohammad Matar gave a presentation about the Educational Research, and how to develop this type of research. Dr. Matar also highlighted the retreating of this type of research comparing to other fields in Palestine, and how the Ministry of Education is working on  promoting and reviving this type of research.

The workshop was concluded with a general discussion  about the Intellectual Property at Palestinian Universities.
