Many students said that voluntary work has fostered their relations with other ‎students from their faculty and other faculties as well, and with the institutions ‎where they volunteer. They also got to know the policies and mechanisms used to ‎properly communicate with citizens in the society. Therefore, they argued that the ‎Center should be supported for the services it offers to the society, and that the ‎media should spot the light on such active Center and its activities.‎

This course is designed by the Community Service Center, which was established ‎in 1999 at An-Najah National University in cooperation with McGill University, ‎Canada, to offer services on the bases of the professional voluntary work which is ‎based on human values and rights. ‎

Dr. Bilal Salameh, Director of the Center, highlighted the societal role of the ‎Center in the prosperity of the society through the various voluntary services it ‎offers in the Community Service Course.‎

He explained that the course is a one-credit-hour compulsory course for all the ‎University students, which immerses students in field and institutional work for ‎‎50 hours after attending 6 theoretical lectures.‎

Through this course, the Community Service Center cultivates and promotes ‎volunteering values by preparing volunteers to get engaged in different ‎community services in the Center, and providing the societal institutions with ‎volunteers as trainers.‎

The Center functions as a societal organization associated with the University and ‎rooted in the local society, and it mainly depends on the great efforts of the ‎volunteers, whether they are the University students or the community people.‎

Through the program it implements, the Center aims to organize the society and ‎turn its people into ones capable of depending on themselves and solving their ‎own problems, especially the marginalized segments, and the Center achieves so ‎by direct the marginalized segments on how to work out their solutions by ‎themselves. ‎

One of the Center's volunteers said: " Volunteering is the perfect opportunity to ‎make an impact during studying at the university. There are so many activities ‎you can get involved with at An-Najah University, and it’s a great way to meet ‎new students and people who share the same passions or interests as you. You’ll ‎develop skills that’ll stand out on your CV, and your volunteer hours will be ‎formally recognized on your transcript, helping your journey to your dream ‎career".‎

Dr. Salameh noted that university students can be a catalyst of change for the ‎better and create social impact in ways that are meaningful to them. He also said:" ‎With flexible opportunities for students and a sure chance to be inspired by those ‎they meet along the way, there is no better time than now to volunteer".‎
