The Projects' Management Unit in collaboration with the International Development and External Affairs Office at An-Najah University organized the Improving Governance Practices at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions (UniGov) Closing Conference.

The conference aimed to shed light on the project's achievements and find ways to sustain the goals it achieved.


UniGov, EU funded project, included five Palestinian universities; namely, An-Najah University, Arab American University Jenin, Palestine Polytechnic University, Birzeit University and the Islamic University of Gaza as well as four European universities; namely, University of Ljubljana, University of Siena, University of Évora and University College Cork in addition to the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED).

The conference focused on informing the public about the UniGov project, the results and the available resources and the way it can be accessed.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice ‎President for International Development and External Affairs emphasized on the importance of identifying weaknesses and improving skills and competencies to provide better academic quality and occupy better positions in major university ranking systems. She also thanked the European Commission and everyone who contributed to the success of the project.

Dr. Mohammad Najjar, Coordinator of the UniGov Project, screened a short video and a presentation on the project's purposes and An-Najah University role in the collaboration process.

The conference included two main discussions titled: "improving governance Practices at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions: sharing experiences and lessons learnt from the UniGov Palestinian partners" and "the sustainability of the UniGov project: paving the way forward".

The conference was also attended by Mr. Marcello SCALISI, UNIMED Director; Dr. Mohammad Al-Subu, Vice President for Academic Affairs; by Dr. Shaker Bitar, Vice ‎President for Administrative Affairs; Dr. Nidal Dwaikat, President's Assistant for Planning, Development and Quality Assurance; Dr. Maher Abu Zant, President's Assistant for Community Affairs and the partner's representatives.
