An-Najah National University launched the Fourth International Palestine Taekwondo Championship Continues, held at the university’s Physical Education Department. The event was organized by the Palestinian Taekwondo Federation, in collaboration with the Higher Council for Youth and Sports, the Palestinian Olympic Committee, and An-Najah National University. The tournament features 472 athletes, coaches, and officials from 19 Arab and foreign countries.


The championship boasts the participation of world-class athletes, including Olympic and Asian Games gold medalists. Competitors will vie in various weight categories for both men and women, with substantial support from local institutions and companies.

On the first day, a technical meeting was held with the attendance of all delegations, followed by a closed session for the refereeing committee, which comprised international Taekwondo judges. An-Najah University has taken measures to ensure that the sports hall on the new campus is fully equipped to meet international standards, providing optimal conditions for the comfort and safety of athletes, coaches, and referees.

The opening ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Professor Lee, President of the Asian Taekwondo Federation and supervisor of the tournament; Idris Hilal, President of the Arab and African Taekwondo Federations; Major General Jebril Rajoub, President of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports; and Prof. Maher Natsheh, President of An-Najah National University. Heads of Taekwondo federations from the participating countries, delegation representatives, coaches, and athletes were also present.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Natsheh welcomed attendees from across the globe, expressing the university's pride in hosting this prestigious event and meeting the rigorous international standards required for such a championship. He emphasized that An-Najah National University, as one of Palestine's largest and oldest universities, continues to prioritize sports despite operating under challenging circumstances. He also wished the participants success throughout the competition.

Major General Rajoub highlighted the humanitarian significance of the event, noting the strong message of unity, respect, and appreciation for the Palestinian people reflected in the exceptional participation. He described sports as a universal language of peace and tolerance, expressing hope that the International Taekwondo Federation would continue to support the development of this championship within Palestine’s sporting agenda.

The ceremony featured a flag parade of the participating nations, as well as the traditional oaths taken by referees and athletes, in accordance with international customs. Cultural performances, including the Palestinian Dabkeh, were also showcased. The Higher Council for Youth and Sports honored Prof. Natsheh and representatives from the Asian, Arab, and African Taekwondo Federations, while Professor Lee recognized An-Najah University’s contribution to the success of this championship.

A standout moment during the tournament was the participation of Shadi, a Bulgarian Taekwondo champion and Palestinian refugee who now resides in Bulgaria. Shadi returned to Palestine to represent Bulgaria, marking a poignant moment in the championship.
