On Thursday, February 16th, 2017, the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights and Democracy and Peace at An-Najah in cooperation with Paris Nanterre University organized a study day on the Palestinian constitutional law at the Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium in the Old Campus.


The study day included four sessions on basic rights admitted by the Palestinian constitutional provisions, the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, the Palestinian constitutional court and the Palestinian constitutional law from a regional point of view in the light of the "Arab Spring" events respectively.

Dr. Joni Assi, UNESCO Chair Director welcomed the participating institutions and universities and said that this day is an extension of a further collaboration between the UNESCO Chair and the French universities.

He pointed out that Palestinian law faculties were able to achieve progress in constitutional culture in Palestine benefiting from the French experience.

He also stressed the importance of the study day as it gathers prominent Palestinian and French specialists and experts.

Dr. Malik Boumediene, representative if the Law Centre at Paris Nanterre University discussed the importance of the event and referred to the significance of the Palestinian cause and Palestinians’ rights.

The event was also attended by a group of prominent Palestinian and French figures as well as a delegation of specialists from participating universities.

The sessions were moderated by Dr. Sana’ Sarghali, Professor of Constitutional Law; Dr. Ali Sartawi, Professor of Civil Law; Dr. Nael Taha, Professor of Criminal Law at An-Najah and Ms Ghada Abdulhadi, Head of Hawwa Society Centre for Culture and Arts.
