The Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest faculties at An-Najah National University with regard to infrastructure and the number of students and staff.

During the year 2015, the faculty students produced a number of distinguished graduation projects. These projects offer applicable solutions to actual problems the Palestinian community suffers.

The Electric Hand Project

Students Hassan Arafat and Ghaleb Dweikat from the Computer Engineering Department introduced a project of an electric hand that operates remotely simulating the motion of the user’s hand through a sensor.

The project combines both the mechanic and computer engineering and is used to maintain mechanical components unreachable by the human hand. The device is also utilized in various dangerous mechanical operations.

A graduation project on traffic jam

Students Ezz El-Deen Jayousi, Bayan Sa’ed and Shahd Omar from the Civil Engineering Department produced a project that offers solutions to traffic jam on campus from an international perspective.

Unlike other projects, the proposal depends on the global sustainable transportation system which is used in developed countries.

The project tackled three diminutions; namely, society, economy and the environment. It focused on decreasing the private transport through expanding the public transport and establishing an accurate synchronization system of traffic signals in main streets according to certain calculations.

A project on energy use efficiency at Al-Arz Factory in Nablus

Students Rawan Abdul Naser and Diala Al-Assi from the Energy and Environmental Engineering Department presented a project on energy use efficiency at Al-Arz Factory.

The project’s idea is based on examining the most energy consuming systems used at the factory such as the cooling and heating systems and the refrigerators and studying possible opportunities that can achieve energy conservation and money saving.

The project resulted in conserving 20% of the factory’s energy, a percentage that could be reduced in several local companies and institutions.

A 4 wheel drive power drone project

Students Amer Zughud and Zeid Tuffaha from the Electrical Engineering Department have designed a 4 wheel drive power drone that operates by two engines instead of one.

This project combines electrical, mechanic and telecommunication engineering and uses an android application on smart phones to control the drone. The drone can also be controlled through a smart glove according to hand motions.

On this occasion, Dr. Khaled Al-Sahli, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah commended the faculty students’ creative performance and thanked its staff members for their efforts in promoting scientific research and encouraging their students to be creative.
