On Saturday, March 12th, 2016, An-Najah National University participated in the Pal Women Code Programme to celebrate the International Women’s Day.


The programme aims at developing Palestinian women’s skills in applications of smart phones and tablets to employ them to solve issues related to women and society.

The programme included 34 students from seven Palestinian universities; namely, An-Najah National University, the Kadoorie Institute, Palestine Technical Colleges-Ramallah for Girls, the Arab American University of Jenin, Al-Quds University Abu Dis, Wajdi University College of Technology and the Palestine Ahliya University.

The winning team included members form An-Najah and the Ahliya College who submitted a project on programming and coding through fashion.

Ms Dorothy Shai, American Deputy Consul General mentioned that the programme offers Palestinian women the opportunity to be involved in the IT sector.

Mr. Jawad Abu Own, Executive Director of the Partners for Sustainable Development-NETKETABI stated that the programme matches the institution’s vision to build youth skills in this particular field.

In her turn, Ms Ghada Abu Ta’a, Programme’s Coordinator said that the participating projects touched upon issues related to women’s public health, family, robots and other related subjects.

  • NETKETABi, meaning “My Netbook” in Arabic, is a multi-dimensional educational solution that aims to build the competencies of Palestinian youth. NETKETABi provides school-aged youth with customized laptops containing interactive educational content along with services that promote intellectual stimulation in and out of the classroom. It engages youth in a self-learning empowered environment and creates opportunities for K-12 students to develop 21st Century skills, including critical thinking, innovation, collaboration, and communication.
