On Wednesday, January 24th, 2016, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received at his office Dr. Peter Mascher, Associate Vice-President of International Affairs and Professor at McMaster University in Canada and Ms Kate Solomon, Political and Trade Secretary at the Canadian Representative Office in Jerusalem.


The meeting aimed at discussing possible means of mutual cooperation between An-Najah and McMaster University.

Professor Natsheh started by introducing the guests to An-Najah history, facilities, academic programmes and students. He also talked about An-Najah’s academic relations with international universities, academic exchange and its international accreditations. He further mentioned the difficulties that encounter higher education in Palestine and the development projects that are being implemented in the university.

In turn, Dr. Mascher stressed the importance of building academic links and partnerships between McMaster University and the Palestinian universities especially in the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry and economics. He also discussed the possibility of research collaboration and implementing joint PhD programmes in the field water studies in Palestine.

Notes:

Dr. Mascher holds the William Sinclair Chair in Optoelectronics and leads active research groups involved in the fabrication and characterization of thin films for optoelectronic applications, the development and application of silicon-based nanostructures, and the characterization of defects in solids by positron annihilation spectroscopy. Dr. Mascher has supervised about 60 Ph.D. and master’s degree students, has authored or coauthored close to 250 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and has presented many invited lectures at international conferences and workshops.
