Zajel and the Environment Quality Authority Conclude Environmental Awareness Camp: Towards a Better Environment

The Zajel International Youth Exchange Program at An-Najah National University, in collaboration with the Environment Quality Authority in Nablus, organized a four-day environmental awareness camp titled "Towards a Better Environment." The initiative engaged 70 students from various university faculties through workshops and field visits across the governorates of Nablus, Jenin, and Tulkarm.
The camp aimed to deepen students' understanding of Palestine’s environmental challenges, including pollution, water management, and the loss of green spaces. Participants explored sustainable practices and practical solutions for environmental protection, especially in the context of a growing population and increasing ecological pressures.
Activities included scientific lectures and hands-on visits. Mr. Emad Masri of Nablus Municipality spoke on local water issues, while Dr. Adnan Joudeh addressed the impact of radiation on the environment. Field trips featured the Eastern Water Distribution Station and the Western Water Treatment Plant, where students learned about water purification systems and future development plans.
Further visits included Wadi Al-Zoumar to study flood-related damage, the woodlands of Tubas to observe waste reuse innovations, and Zahret Al-Finjan landfill for insights into solid waste management. Students also examined the environmental effects of charcoal production in Ya'bad and explored biodiversity at the Environmental Park in Tall village.
Dr. Tamer Khatib delivered a lecture on Palestine’s energy policies, while Engineer Amjad Kharraz praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of student engagement in environmental awareness and practical problem-solving for the future of the West Bank.
This comprehensive experience aimed to foster environmental responsibility among youth and strengthen their role in shaping sustainable futures for Palestine.
