Industry

The pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry, including the production of skin care materials, has been established in Palestine since the 1970s. Presently, a significant number of Palestinian companies are engaged in manufacturing medicines, cosmetics, and skincare products for the local market, as well as for export purposes. These companies fulfill approximately 60% of the Palestinian market's demands, which amounts to an estimated annual value of 100-120 million dollars. Moreover, several Palestinian companies successfully export their products to countries such as Eastern Europe, Jordan, Algeria, Qatar, and Germany.

In the West Bank, there are currently 29 cosmetics and skin care factories, along with approximately 1,087 licensed pharmacies in 2019. The number of pharmaceutical warehouses is 243, while there are 192 warehouses specifically for cosmetics. Furthermore, there are around 300 shops dedicated to selling and marketing cosmetics, skincare products, and perfumes. Additionally, there are three warehouses specializing in selling nutritional supplements, as well as seven scientific offices responsible for registration and licensing.

Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of beauty salons and centers throughout the country, with a total of about 660 centers. In order to promote social accountability, disseminate information, and educate citizens about the proper procedures for granting work permits to these centers, it has become crucial to establish clear guidelines and mechanisms for official oversight. This is essential to ensure compliance with the law and to guarantee the safety of services provided to the public.

It is also important to organize the operations within the cosmetics, skin care, and laser treatment and cosmetology fields. This involves clarifying the procedures, standards, and requirements for licensing these centers, as well as outlining the policies and procedures involved in granting licenses within this sector. Furthermore, a monitoring mechanism needs to be established to oversee health institutions, beauty salons, and skin care centers that utilize laser treatments. Finally, accountability mechanisms should be put in place to address any medical errors committed by these centers.
