This course is designed to highlight the methods of legal thinking and legal analysis among students. It seeks to improve students? skills on how to apply those methods in their legal studies and conduct research papers. This course also aims to improve students? legal writing skills with all its elements and components.

This course includes a deep study of the criminal procedural theory and its theoretical and practical value, in protecting the suspects? rights. This course also highlights the main principles of criminal procedures, especially, inter alia, the principle of constitutional and procedural legality, presumption of innocence, the principle of confrontation, investigation transparency and integrity, the freedom of proof of criminal evidence and others.

This course addresses several aspects of the International Criminal Law, including the theory of the internationalization of law and justice, which includes: the international cooperation in criminal procedures, the universal jurisdiction of domestic courts, and the rise of the international criminal law. In addition, it addresses the International Judicial Institutions, in which students will learn how to distinguish between temporary courts, ad hoc courts and the ICC and study in depth the cases with which international courts have dealt. Students will learn about the concept of international crimes as well as providing examples of such crimes, such as; war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, and aggression crimes. The course will also focus on the personal liability in the international criminal law, through studies of Nuremberg and Tokyo tribunals and the Rome Statute. Finally, this course aims to provide a critical and analytical study on the international criminal system, especially the international justice policy and how the South World views it, Palestine in particular.

This course provides an analytical study of the Actus reus ?the objective element? and the Mens rea ?the mental element? of the crime. Also, this course will examine the political criminal philosophy, the commitment of the criminal legitimacy, the attempt of committing a crime, and crime motivations. Furthermore, the course addresses issues related to the implantation of penalties and sanctions, participation in crime, impossible crimes, criminal law defenses, as well as addressing the main problems that criminal legislations are facing in the present time.

This course eliminates the main legal sources of the criminal protection of human rights. Thus, it discusses the standing of the Palestinian criminal legislation regarding the criminal protection of the Freedom of Belief, the legitimate criminal limitations on detaining and arresting suspects, the extent of the panel code?s commitment to the criminal protection of human rights and the criminal protection of the right of defense. Also, this course addresses other specified issues, such as, inter alia, politicizing the criminal protection of human rights, the role of the special criminal committees in the protection of human rights, human protection against torture, and the requirements of the presumption of innocence.

This course covers topics related to Economic Crimes, Modern Fraud Crimes, Consumer Crimes, Illegal Competition Practices, the Commercial Criminal Law and Corporation Crimes (crimes related to the establishments, practices and the liquidation of corporations). Furthermore, this course stresses on critical issues, such as reconciliation in economic crimes, sanctions, criminal liability, the role of the public prosecution in economic crimes, electronic fraud, crimes related to securities, e-commerce crimes, investment crimes, forgery crimes, cybercrimes and money laundering crimes.

This course addresses the role of legal rules in protecting social values, the sources of such protection, and the interrelationships between parties in the social fabric. This course also discusses crimes committed against women and children as well as crimes related to labor and employment such as offences against the right to work, organized strikes, the freedom of Labor Unions, the freedom of establishing Labor Unions and how Criminal Law protects such rights and freedoms.

The course sheds light on the definition of corruption, its causes, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the designated Public Prosecution to counter corruption, the corruption court and its procedures, illegal profiteering, bribes, abuse of power, and embezzlement. This course also covers the suitability of the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Act in comparison with the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the investigation standards in corruption crimes (assets recovery, witness protection and the entities subject to the anti-corruption law). Also, it provides an analytical study on the law of the state audit and administrative control bureau, the financial and administrative corruption, the appeal process of the corruption cases. Moreover, this course examines the concept of financial disclosures, how to submit the disclosure, preserve it and the consequences of refraining from submitting it.

This course covers the nature and extent of financial crime, its social and economic impact and the prosecution of financial crime offenders. The course explores several types of financial crimes, such as Check Cashing and Credit Frauds, Capital Market Crimes, Customs Offences, and Banking Crimes.

This course covers the definition of the environment, its protection in Islam, environmental pollution, marine life protection, the protection of the terrestrial and marine biodiversity, the international and local liability in environmental pollution, smoking crimes, noise pollution, and the international agreements regarding the environment protection. Also, this course discusses the Palestinian Environment Protection Act, the competent courts, the administrative sanctions and precautionary measures attached to environmental crimes. Finally, this course includes a study on nuclear radiations, the environmental pollution in Palestine and environmental effects of the Israeli-settlements on the environment in Palestine.

This course reflects the thoughts and principles determined by the state in order to direct the legislation process, whether in its enactment or implementing stages, to fit the general framework of the state?s public policy. It also highlights the role of the legislators and the judicial institution, as well as interrelationships within the society, which ensures the coexistence and harmony among its members. Also, this course examines the finest legal methods to prevent social delinquency and suppression. This requires reconsidering the traditional methods of the criminal justice and the rules that regulates criminalization and punishment.

This course provides an analytical study on the Islamic criminal theories, criminalization and punishment theory from an Islamic perspective, the methods of implementing sanctions in the Islamic Sharia. Moreover, this course will provide examples of countries that use the Islamic law and the crimes rate in such countries.

This course provides a theoretical and practical study on criminal investigation, fingerprinting, blood analysis, and iris analysis. Students will learn how to deal with the crime scene, crime tools, and examination. Also, topics related to forensic medicine are discussed in the course, including dead body anatomy, polygraph, fraud detection and how to evaluate moral damages.

In this course, students will study the following: 1) the explanatory methodology which explains the reasons and answers < Why Questions >, besides focusing on addressing the external sources of criminal justice. 2)The interpretation methodology, which tries to explain how the criminal justice in Palestine developed to the level that we got to today, through focusing on its components. The main focus of this methodology is the elements, identity and the formation of criminal justice.

An advanced study to a special topic related to criminal law and criminal justice. The topic will be determined by the professor and the students.
