Mission

Provide an enriching academic environment in criminal law, which is based on analytical, experimental and comparative scientific research, that equips graduate students with professional legal skills to later practice as lawyers, judges, public attorneys, legal consultants, researchers or legal professionals working in legal control apparatuses

 

Vision

Contribute effectively to preparation of competent cadres in the field of criminal law, thus making them capable of dealing appropriately with the legal rules and regulations. To this end, the program trains students to practice dialectical skills, critical thinking and analysis skills and follow a sound scientific methodology.

 

Facilities

The programme allows the students to use different facilities available at the department including the computer lab, the legal clinic, the moot court and the Forensic Institute.

 

Industry

The programme aims at empowering legal institutions in Palestine through qualifying their personnel whose qualifications are needed to develop the Palestinian system of criminal law through providing trainings, consultancy services and guidance. Therefore, the programme emphasizes the need to hold specialized workshops and conferences in the field of criminal law where university experts and other professionals are invited to discuss issues relevant to this important discipline. Furthermore, it provides students with good opportunities for academic exchange and exchange visitor programmes in different universities. In order to achieve the programme’s objectives, the university signs a number of MOUs with national and international universities as well as other legal institutions in Palestine and outside such as the Department of Public Prosecutor, the Higher Judicial Council and other civic institutions including The Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN), Al-Haq for human rights organization and Defense for Children International. The programme plays a significant role in maintaining criminal justice and contributes to the establishment of an independent Palestinian State through qualifying legal experts in the field of criminal law.

Coursework and Assessment

  • 1st exam (on paper): 15 %
  • 2nd exam (on paper): 15 %
  • Participation and research: 20 % (5 % for editing the research, 5% for presentation, 5 % for reporting and 5% for active participation of other classmate research.
  • Final exam (theoretical and practical ): 50 %
